Objectives: Metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis is increased in the transition to menopause. In male decline blood level testosterone is associated with metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis. But there is little study about the relation between the testosterone and the BMD in women.
Methods: 437 healthy women in the ?? hospital from May, 2003 to April, 2004 were studied retrospectively. We measured the Body Mass Index(BMI), abdominal circumflex(AC), total testosterone, FSH, Triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C and fasting glucose. The BMD was measured at lumbar and femur site by DEXA method. Two side P<0.05 was considered significant.
Results: Testosterone level was decreasing with aging. Lumbar BMD had a negative correlation with age. Femur BMD had a negative correlation with age and a positive correlation with testosterone, BMI, Triglyceride. In below 20 FSH level women, testosterone, BMI and triglyceridehave positive correlation with femur. LDL-c had a positive correlation with Femur BMI in over 40 FSH level women.
Conclusion: BMD in early menopause period was affected by testosterone and triglyceride, BMI. But later menopause period women did not show such correlation.
